Novice bowfishermen often start out small once they give the sport a try before investing more time and money. A 15- to 18-foot aluminum johnboat equipped with a foot-controlled trolling motor makes a great first and maybe only rig since these outfits are more widely available.
One way to enhance this boat’s bowfish-ablity is by adding a removable plywood deck as a shooting platform. Two shooters in the front of the boat may make the boat a little unstable, which can be corrected by adding a homemade pontoon, constructed with 6-inch PVC pipe filled with styrofoam, to either side of the boat.
