Taking first and second place this past Saturday June 4th, at the Crappie USA 2-day $10,000.00 Super Event at the Wildwood Park Mega Ramps on Clarks Hill Lake were a pair of South Carolina teams. They entire field was competing not only for $10,000.00 cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic.
Semi-Pro Division Results
Taking first place was the team of Kenny Eargle of Leesville, South Carolina and Brad Soper of Batesburg, South Carolina with a weight of 22.01 pounds and earning $3,000.00. Kenny and Brad were fishing the Savannah River in 25 feet of water with their fish suspended 18 feet deep. The team was using minnows and some jigs to catch 40-50 fish during the 2 days of competition.
Second place went to the Leesville, South Carolina team of Leonard Frick and Kimberly Maroney with a weight of 17.3 pounds and earning $2,000.00. Leonard and Kimberly were fishing docks and brush with jigs and minnows in 25-30 feet of water with their fish laying 18-20 feet deep to catch around 50 fish in 2 days.
In third place was Rick Howard of Warner Robbins, Georgia and Scott Williams of Cochran, Georgia with a weight of 15.73 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Rich and Scott were fishing the upper end of the lake long lining on day 1 and pushed on day 2 using Big Bite Baits and straight minnows to catch 70-80 fish in 2 days. The team also won the Ranger Cup Award and receiving a check for $250.00.
Randy Pope and Steven Dietz of Hickory, North Carolina took fourth place with a weight of 15.15 pounds. Randy and Steven were fishing Little River on the South Carolina side working docks with Crème Little Fishies on a 1/32 ounce jig in 12-30 feet of water. The team caught around 150 fish in 2 days.
Fifth place went to John Moses of Simpsonville, South Carolina along with Tip and Jacob Forrester of Travelers Rest, South Carolina with a weight of 12.17 pounds. John, Tip and Jacob fished several areas of the lake shooting docks in 20 feet of water using homemade hair jigs to catch 60-70 fish in the 2 day event.
Amateur Division Results
First place in the amateur division was the Leesville, South Carolina team of Brian Davis and Brian Davis Jr with a weight of 18.02 pounds and earning $1,500.00. The Davis team was fishing around Bigheart fishing brushpiles with minnows 25 feet deep. The team caught around 150 fish in the 2 days of fishing.
Second place went to Michael Berry of Thomson, Georgia and Dereck Fulton of Grovetown, Georgia with a weight of 16.72 pounds and earning $1,000.00. Michael and Dereck were fishing Salt Creek where they found a hump 9 feet deep surrounded by 14 feet of water, pushing Glow jigs with minnows at a speed of .3 to .5 MPH and caught around 50 fish in 2 days.
Taking third place was Leland and Dorothy Wood of Aiken, South Carolina with a weight of 14.75 pounds and earning $500.00. Leland and Dorothy were fishing from Jordan Creek to the Dam vertical jigging brushpiles 25 feet deep with fish holding 12-14 feet deep using jigs and minnows to catch around 60 fish for the 2 days.
In fourth was Tommy Slice of Irmo, South Carolina with a weight of 14.06 pounds. Tommy was fishing the Little River area working deep docks 30 feet deep with his fish suspended 15 feet deep using jigs to catch 75-80 fish in the 2 days of the event.
Fifth place went to the team of Ricky Willis of Gray, Georgia and Troy Thiel of Gordon, Georgia weighing in 10.38 pounds. Ricky and Troy were fishing Little River on the South Carolina side down to the weigh in site using Sugar Bugs which Ricky makes to catch around 200 fish in the 2 days of the event. The team also won the Amateur Ranger Cup Award and receiving a check for $125.00.
Big Fish Award
Taking big fish of the event was the team of Kenny Eargle of Leesville, South Carolina and Brad Soper of Batesburg, South Carolina with a 2.09 pound crappie and receiving $112.00 for big fish of the event. Second place in the big fish contest was the Leesville, South Carolina team of Brian Davis and Brian Davis Jr with a 2.06 pound crappie and receiving $48.00.
