Randleman Lake crappie crashes into truck

That was one unlucky crappie

York, S.C.’s Barry Poff, a transport driver for Ward Transport and Logistics in Charlotte, N.C., was crossing Randleman Lake on I-73 near High Point when what appears to be an osprey dropped a fish into the truck’s path. The fish, which looks like a crappie when the video is slowed down, smacked into the windshield of the truck.

When captured by an osprey, fish will squirm in hopes of wiggling free. But it’s possible this osprey released the fish to lighten its load when it saw the oncoming truck to avoid colliding with it.

It’s not the first time a North Carolina driver has been hit by a fish. In 2019, Rhesa Walston of Washington, N.C. had a similar experience. A catfish smashed the windshield on her SUV after apparently being dropped by a bird. Click here to read that story.
