Columbia offers Oct. 14 fly fishing workshop

Anglers can learn the essentials of fly fishing Oct. 14 at a Sesqui State Park seminar.

The Saluda River Chapter of Trout Unlimited and the Federation of Fly Fishers will conduct an Introduction to fly fishing class and workshops at Sesqui State Park outside of Columbia Saturday, Oct. 14, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is an excellent opportunity to learn all about fly fishing, fly casting, fishing knots, and more. Fly fishing is not only a lot of fun but it is a challenging and addictive sport. Virtually any kind of fish that can be caught with a spinning rod also can be caught on a fly rod, whether trout, bream, largemouth bass and striped bass, or saltwater fish such as redfish, seatrout, tarpon, flounder and even sharks.

All equipment and materials will be provided. If anglers wish to use their own rods and reels they may do so. This promises to be an exciting day as participants will learn from some of the chapter’s best fly fishermen. Cost for the class is $35 and includes an SRTU style lunch.

Sesqui State Park is located 13 miles northeast of downtown Columbia at U.S. Highway 1 (Two Notch Rd).

The class is expected to sell out so anglers should reserve a spot quickly. Contact Keith Cloud at (803) 781-9568 or via email at keithcloud@yahoo.com for more info regarding this event. Visit the SRTU Web site at www.saludatu.org to learn about the chapter and its activities.
