Vendors, new products, casting demonstrations
The Smoky Mountain Fly Fishing Festival will take place this Saturday, Oct 10 in Bryson City on the Tuckaseegee River. This is the first such festival in what is planned to be a yearly event. From 9 AM to 5 PM, vendors will line up on Frye Street right at the train depot.
It’s a great time of year for the festival, as fall colors will paint the scenery of the mountainous terrain along the Tuckaseegee’s new 2.2-mile stretch of Delayed Harvest waters, and with this section having been stocked on Oct 7, anglers can demo rods in a real-world situation rather than in the parking lot of a tackle store.
Vendors will include Simms, Zero Sweep, Umpqua, Flood Tide, Crooked Creek Holler, Sage, Echo, and others. Local fly-tiers will also be present, and casting demonstrations will feature many well-known fly anglers like Mac Brown.
Festival organizer Dale Collins, who is also a co-owner of Tuckaseegee Fly Shop is excited about the festival.“This event is the first to be located in Bryson City, the heart of the North Carolina Smokies’ rich fly fishing waters. We’re excited to have the opportunity to showcase not only the highest quality brands and craftsmen in the fly fishing industry, but also the heritage and tradition of fly fishing in the region. We look forward to watching this event grow over the coming years,” Collins said.
