One blue marlin weighed in Friday doesn’t break into leaderboard
One blue marlin was brought to the scales on Friday on the fifth day of the 57th annual Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament out of Morehead City, but it wasn’t big enough to shuffle the leaderboard, leaving Viking 62’s 680-pound fish, caught on Monday, as the leader.
Saturday is the final day of the tournament, which offers a purse of $1.63 million.
Sushi, a 57-foot boat from Nags Head owned and captained by Charley Pereira, brought in a 419.1-pound blue marlin on Friday, the smallest of the six fish brought to the scales this week. Sushi’s fish was hooked up at 2:57 p.m., and it made it to the scales at 7:28.
Fishermen in the 149-boat field caught and released 17 blue marlin, seven white marlin and one sailfish in Thursday’s action.
