Tournament winners round-up

Darrell Peacock and Denny Potts, both of Mocksville, won the Feb. 18 Carolina Crappie Assoc. tournament at High Rock Lake.

Dustin Wilks of Rocky Mount, a pro bass fisherman and columnist for North Carolina Sportsman, finished seventh in the Bassmasters Classic in late February on Louisiana’s Red River.

Wilks finished the 3-day event with 15 bass that weighed 44 pounds, 12 ounces, earning $21,500. He bagged limits that weighed 16-9, 13-10 and 14-9. Wilks was the only pro angler from North Carolina in the 49-man field.

Chris Lane headed a sweep of the top three spots by Alabama anglers. Lane, from Guntersville, took home the championship trophy and $500,000 first-prize money with 51 pounds, 6 ounces.

Greg Vinson of Wetumpka took second with 47-15, and Keith Poche of Pike Road was third with 45-15.

Holder is fourth at Okeechobee

Brian Holder of Gastonia and Scott Kerslaw of Henderson had paydays at the Jan. 19-21 Everstart Series Southeast Division tournament on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee.

Holder finished fourth with 48 pounds, 14 ounces, and banked $9,000; Kerslaw placed 52nd with 18-3 and received $1,000.

Three other North Carolina fishermen fished as co-anglers and finished in the money: Phil Jarmon of Apex was 26th with 12-11 for $600; Gurney Hoffman of Richlands was 31st with 12-5 for $500; and Justin Jones of Apex was 32nd with 12-2 for $500.

Thrift sixth in FLW event

Shelby’s Bryan Thrift placed sixth at the Feb. 9-12 FLW Tour event on Florida’s Lake Okeechobee. Clewiston, Fla. His catch of 61 pounds, 12 ounces paid $17,000.

Phil Jarmon of Apex finished 23rd among the co-anglers with 20-5 and received $1,300.
