Sumter anglers cash in on great Lake Wateree bass fishing

Billy McIntosh and Rick McLean got a payday of almost $1000 for this big catch of Lake Wateree bass.

McIntosh, McLean weigh in more than 25 pounds in CATT event

Two Sumter anglers continued their winning ways on Lake Wateree, catching more than 25 pounds of largemouth bass this past Saturday in the Carolina Anglers Team Trail tournament out of Clearwater Cove.

Billy McIntosh and Rick McLean brought a 5-fish limit weighing 25.54 pounds to the scales to win $950. They caught fish on practically every type of lure they threw.

“We had our limit by 7:19 and we started culling fish before 7:30,” McIntosh said. “The fish are biting everything. Topwater lures, jigs, soft plastics–we caught them on everything.”

Chad Rabon and Walt Almond of Camden, fresh off a Wateree CATT win two weeks ago, finished second, bringing 22.90 pounds to the weigh-in to pocket $350.

Steve and Cody Phillips, also from Camden, took third with 22.23 and won $225. Fourth-place finisher Donald Hinson of Lugoff weighed in 17.27 to win $125. Hartsville anglers Jimmy McFarland and Calvin Griggs finished fifth with 16.12 lbs and took home $100.

Bradford Beavers of Summerville took big fish honors with a 6.61-pound brute to win $189.
