
Roger Pope of Statesville and Nathan Webber of Boone won the April 14 Ranger Owners Championship Series event at Kerr Lake.
For their five-fish catch of 20-8, they received a $10,000 Ranger purchase certificate and berth to the Forrest Wood Cup at Hot Springs, Ark., and a chance to win $1 million.
Dennis Gilbert of Nathalie, Va., and William Roberts of Fairfax, Va., placed second with 18-5 and earned a $7,500 purchase certificate and entry into the Forrest Wood Cup.
Completing the top five teams were Stephen Griggs of Summerfield and Jimmy Wall of Greensboro, third, with 17-6 for $7,500; Patrick Tierney of Denver and Chuck Douthit of Mooresville, fourth, with 16-14 for $5,000; and Steve Hildebran of Mount Holly and Donnie Cooper of Belmont, fifth, with 16-10 for $4,500.
Benny Hutchens of East Bend and Kenneth Hutchens of Hamptonville won a Ranger Z20 Comanche boat in a drawing.
Todd Sumner of Southern Pines won the March 31 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League N.C. Division tournament at Lake Gaston with 22 pounds, 7 ounces and received $4,535. He caught his fish with a 3/8-ounce black and blue jig.
Other scores were Bruce Hoadley of Raleigh, second, with 20-11 for $2,668; Michael Fox of Statesville, third, with 18-06 for $1,780; and Maurice Freeze of Concord, fourth, with 16-09 for $1,245.
Fox also captured the Boater Division big-fish award with a 5-pound, 11-ounce bass worth $840.
Chris Hall of Mt. Pleasant won the Co-angler Division with 13-08 and banked $2,668.
Other co-angler scores were Josea Goble of Newton, second, with 12-12 for $1,334; John Allen of Concord, third, with 12-05 for $888; and Mike Shatley of North Wilkesboro, fifth, with 10-03 for $534.
Frank Johnson of Jonesville took the co-angler big-fish award with a 7-pound, 7-ounce bass that paid $420.
Cherryville’s Guy Eaker placed 46th with 59-11 and won $10,000 at the March 29- April 1 Golden State Shootout Elite Series tournament at Clear Lake, Lakeport, California.
