Fulton angler had a rough start on day one at Lake Murray
In his first year fishing on the FLW Tour, Fulton’s Joseph Webster made the Forrest Wood Cup for the second time, which is no small feat. He qualified for his first Cup in 2016 through the TBF Championship, and Webster finished in the top 10. But after day one of the 2017 Super Bowl of bass fishing, Webster is in thirty-ninth place after a tough start on South Carolina’s Lake Murray.
Webster managed to catch only 3 bass that weighed 6 pounds, 5 ounces on the first day, and he has to be in the top 10 at the conclusion of day two in order to make the 10-angler cut and fish on Sunday for a shot at the $300,000 grand prize.
But Webster was upbeat after weighing in.
“I had a lot of good bites today; I just didn’t catch them. I had a real good day on the last day of practice. I probably caught 20 pounds. The fish are there. The fish are going to be there tomorrow and hopefully they’ll just bite. We can still make it into the top 10,” said Webster, who is the only Mississippi angler fishing in the Cup.
