Inspiration moves into second place in Big Rock

The Inspiration's 437.7-pound blue marlin took over second place in the Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament on Tuesday.

Inspiration captain Casey Wagner, Morehead City, and angler Terry Clark, Beaufort, landed a 437.7-pound blue marlin Tuesday to grab second place in the 54th Big Rock Blue Marlin Tournament during the competition’s second day.

The fight took 93 minutes before Wagner’s son, first mate Cole, helped wrestle the big billfish aboard, putting Inspiration in position for the second-place money of $161,980.

Wagner had to put the boat in reverse to follow the fish for more than two miles and 30 minutes before Clark wore down the big fish, which is second to a 499.3-pound marlin caught on Monday by the crew of Charleston, S.C.-based Flybuoy.

Crews caught 20 billfish on Tuesday; all were released except Inspiration’s big fish. Ten of the released fish were blue marlin.
