Hampstead crew has “Wild Ride” to king mackerel win

Griffin family takes top prize with 30.3-pound fish

A week’s delay because of the weather didn’t slow down Randy Griffin and his family, who won the Jodi Tynch Memorial King Mackerel Tournament this past weekend out of Wrightsville Beach.

Fishing aboard the Wild Ride, the Griffins, who are from Hampstead, brought a 30.3-pound king to the scales to win the annual benefit tournament, which had been postponed from June 29-30.

 

In addition to winning the tournament, the Wild Ride’s big king also secured Top Lady Angler Honors for Shanna Griffin and Top Junior Angler Honors for Ayden Griffin.

 

Joey Crisp and the Wee Doggie crew finished second with a 25.1-pound king, while Chad Malpass and his crew on the Trigger Happy weighed a 22.6-pounder to finish.

 

Tirnanog, with Brian Corrigan and Alex Wischon, topped the Spanish Mackerel division with a 1.5-pound fish. This fish also earned Top Junior Angler Honors in the Spanish division for Alex Wischon. Melvin Lane, on Lane Boy, finished second with a 1.4-pound fish. Tim Craver and the crew of the Green Eyed Pickle claimed the big-fish prize in the Dolphin Division with a 9.9-pound fish.
