Denver’s Hamrick shines at Norman

Scott Hamrick of Denver claimed several checks at the Feb. 17 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League North Carolina Division tournament at Lake Norman.

Hamrick received a check for $4,352 for finishing first with 17-04, another check for $768 from Ranger boats, and a third check for $790 for the big fish of the day, a 5-pound, 8-ounce bass.

Dustin Clontz of Albemarle finished second with 15-5 and collected $2,561; Chuck Douthit of Mooresville ranked third with 14-13 and earned $1,705; and Lee Williams of Durham placed fifth with 14-3 and banked $1,024.

Bryan Lewis of West Jefferson placed first among the co-anglers with 10-04 and won $2,561.

Other scores were James Carriker of Badin, second, with 9-11 for $1,280; George Hirapetian of Charlotte, third, with 9-1 for $854; Charles Stroud of Boiling Springs, fourth, with 8-9 for $598; and Robert Parrish of Albemarle, fifth, with 8-4 for $512.

Brian Adams of Fayetteville had the big fish among the co-anglers with a 5-pound, 8-ounce bass and received $395.

Jeremy Talbert of Albemarle placed second with 15-6 and earned $2,582 at the Feb. 10 Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League South Carolina Division tournament at Santee-Cooper, S.C.

Maurice Freeze of Concord ranked fifth with 11-00 and banked $1,033.

Ronnie Watts of Florence, S.C., took the top prize of $4,340 with 20-01.

Albemarle’s Dean Talbert finished second in the Co-angler Division with 9-2 and received $1,291.

Steve Johnson of Monroe placed third with one bass that weighed 7 pounds and won $863 plus $402 for the big bass of the day among the co-anglers.

Daniel Peninger of Fairview won the Feb. 3 Co-angler Division of the Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League Savannah Division tournament at Lake Keowee, S.C.

Peninger had 10-09 and received $2,620.

Jeff Coble of Manson placed fourth at the Jan. 25-27 ESPN Outdoor Bassmaster Series Championship at Lake Guntersville, Ala., with a three -day catch of 41-14 worth $7,200.

Coble, who won this event last year and earned an invitation to the 2006 Bassmaster Classic, had 16-03 the first day, 21-06 the second day, but only 4-05 the final day.

His 8-pound 5-ounce bass during the first round was the Purolator big bass of the day and paid $1,000.

Other scores were Klaus Hadschin of Granite Falls, ninth, with 27-15 for $2,700; Michael McMillan of Greensboro, 37th, with 10-04 for $1,400; David Wright of Lexington, 49th, with 3-14 for $1,300; and Robert Trueblood of Walnut Cove, 52nd, with 1-07 for $1,300.

Shane LeHew of Charlotte placed eighth at the Feb. 18 Junior World Bassmaster Championship at Logan Martin Lake, Ala.
