Carolina Time wins billfish division of Barta tournament

Five billfish releases tops field of 43

Capt. Shane Brafford and the crew of the Carolina Time won the Barta Boys and Girls Club Billfish Tournament out of Beaufort last weekend, beating a field of 43 boats by catching and releasing five billfish.

In the Gamefish categories, the Fin Planner weighed the largest dolphin at 47.62 pounds. Lookin Back caught a 12.22-pound tuna to win that division, and Wisher decked the largest wahoo at 45.86 pounds.

Bill Diller claimed the Grand Slam Award, while Chase Diller won the Grand Slam Junior Angler Award. The Dillers fished on the Wisher and totaled 53.9 pounds with their wahoo and a dolphin. They did not catch a tuna.

The Heel Yeah, with Capt. Yancy Morris on the bridge, had a good day. It won  Top Outboard Boat Honors with 800 points earned by James Morris on his way to Top Senior Angler Honors and Heather Beacham on her way to Top Lady Angler Honors. The top Junior Angler in the Billfish Division was Ran Johnson of the Fin Planner with 800 release points.
