6 South Carolina angler will compete for the $100,000 top prize
Casey Ashley, Davy Hite, Andy Montgomery, Britt Myers, Marty Robinson, and Jason Williamson are all hoping for a hometown victory next weekend, or at least a home state victory. These six South Carolina anglers, along with 105 other Bassmaster Elite Series anglers, will be vying for a shot to win the first Elite Series event ever held in Georgetown, S.C.
The tournament competition begins Thursday, April 7, and ends on Sunday, April 10. After the second day of competition, the field will be trimmed, so nobody plans to sandbag on those first two days.
The event is being held at the Carroll Ashmore Campbell Marine Complex in Georgetown. It’s the first time an Elite Series event has been held here, and it’s a unique place for such a big bass tournament. Rather than fishing a big lake, the anglers will have access to five major rivers, and anglers are expected to be spread out throughout these rivers, all of which have a tidal influence.
The biggest bass fishing tournament held from that landing so far was last year’s Old Milwaukee B.A.S.S. Nation Southern Divisional. Local angler John Proctor, of Conway, won that event after catching 34-11. Proctor caught most of his fish on three lures. He used a weightless Senko, a Shaky Head, and a spinnerbait. Most of his bass were on spawning beds.
Spectators have a lot to look forward to during this event. Aside from watching the anglers weigh-in each day, they can celebrate the history, recreation, conservation, and beauty of the local area at the Winyah Bay Heritage Festival, which will take place on the 9th and 10th.
The Palmetto Dock Dogs competition, as well as many other fun activities for kids and adults will be part of the festival, which will also include local, outdoor-themed artwork such as paintings, carvings, and much more.
