Family Fishing Clinics aim to increase fishing participation, SCDNR says.
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ Aquatic Education Section is seeking experienced anglers to volunteer as instructors for a new family fishing program.
The Family Fishing Clinics are designed to introduce the basics of fishing to the young and old. Participants will learn how to tie fishing knots, rig rods, cast, fish and more about the sport of fishing.
Volunteers must be willing to attend a volunteer training session and undergo a SLED background and driving record check. Once trained, certified DNR fishing instructors will be expected to hold at least two clinics a year for a minimum of 15 participants and no more than 25 participants and turn in the required reporting documents.
The goal of the Family Fishing Clinics is to introduce participants with little or no angling experience and reintroduce those who need a refresher to the basics of fishing to increase their future participation in the sport. Participants will learn how and where to fish and have someone to fish with to become confident anglers.
