Matt Gentry caught this 5-pound, 11-ounce speckled trout in the Wilmington area.

Local anglers catching big trout in the port city

The trout bite is on in the Wilmington area, especially for Matt Gentry of Tex’s Tackle, who has been catching his share of specks around Wrightsville Beach. And these aren’t just run-of-the-mill trout.

Gentry landed a 5-pound, 11-ounce trout earlier today. The fish measured 26-inches in length, and fell for Gentry’s 1/8-ounce Blue Water Candy jighead with a 4-inch Z-Man PaddlerZ in the Bad Shad color. He was using Fins braid and a Hi Seas, 10-pound fluorocarbon leader.

Another angler weighed in some other nice trout at East Coast Sports, including a 5.2-pounder and two that weighed over 4 pounds.
