Try mid-lake areas for prespawn fish

The mid-lake area of Falls of the Neuse can be an extremely productive place to catch prespawn bass.

Joel Munday likes to fish the mid-lake area of Falls of Neuse during the prespawn.

“Areas between New Light Creek and the NC 50 bridge with some wind can be really productive during the prespawn,” he said. “Any rocky, main-lake or secondary point can be good.

“I’ll cover areas like that thoroughly and check high-percentage areas several times through the day. Try to pattern the fish based on the depth they are holding as well as cover and conditions. Once you’ve figured that out, you can often duplicate it throughout the lake.

“I like small crankbaits and spinners with various colors — old fire tigers and crawdad colors — and I’m not afraid to toss an Alabama rig around shallow waters if I get the impression the fish are holding there.”
