Turkeys were killed in all 46 of SC’s counties in 2026
South Carolina hunters killed a total of 10,591 turkeys during the state’s 2026 season.
The vast majority of those birds (9560) were killed by private land hunters. The remaining 1031 turkeys were killed on numerous WMAs, State Forests and National Forests.
Most of the public-land gobblers were killed on the US Forest Service’s Sumter National Forest with 403.
Hunters killed turkeys in all of the Palmetto State’s 46 counties, with the most coming from Williamsburg with 493. Orangeburg County was a close second with 482 followed by Colleton County with 454, then Florence County (436) and Berkeley County with 420.
Hunters were not allowed to kill jakes during the 2026 season in South Carolina, so all 10,591 birds killed were adults.
How many were killed in your county?
Hunters in Beaufort County killed the fewest number of turkeys at 48. Lexington County saw 55 birds killed. In all other counties, at least 100 turkeys were harvested.
To see turkey hunting statistics on your county or favorite public land, visit the SCDNR Hunter’s Toolbox on the GoOutdoorSC app or at hunterstoolbox.gooutdoorssouthcarolina.com, then click the turkey harvest report tab.
Hunters can also view the deer and bear harvest numbers from past seasons, and even check harvest reporting by day when either bear, deer or turkey hunting seasons are ongoing.
Similar stats can be seen for North Carolina hunters on the GoOutdoorsNC app and at gooutdoorsnorthcarolina.com, but the state’s turkey harvest numbers were not available in time for this magazine issue. ■
