Opening morning, blind and decoys set up. Myself and my husband Butch ready to go. He calls, clucks, purrs, no answer. About an hour later I see a gobbler step out of the woodline with 2 hens. Butch calls, the gobbler struts back and forth. We watch him for about another hour and for some reason he decides he doesn’t like the jake decoy we have set up in the field and starts toward us. I looked at Butch and told him the gobbler was coming our direction toward the decoy. I got him with my Mossberg 20 gauge about 5 minutes later. It was a great opening morning in Halifax County.
