Small prey calls bring coyotes in slower
Rabbit sounds are hard to beat when trying to bring in coyotes, but when the fields and bottoms are full of high grass, I switch to small prey sounds such as rat or mouse to bring coyotes in slower for a nice clear shot.
Charging coyotes can be a challenge to hit even when in a clear field. High weeds during the months of May through July add to the challenge. Try using small prey sounds such as rat, mouse, squirrel or small birds. These sounds will cause a coyote to stalk in rather than charge. The slower approaching coyote will present many more shot opportunities.
