Youth hunter kills 12-point wall hanger

12-point buck is youth hunter’s biggest yet

Thomas Phillips, 12-years-old from Sumter, SC, killed a big 12-point buck on Nov. 10, 2022, meeting his goal of getting a wall mount this season. He’s hunted hard this season, allowing some deer to walk and killing some others, packing meat away in the family freezer while still awaiting a shot at his dream buck.

“I love the outdoors. I’ve gone hunting every day since deer season started. If it wasn’t just to sit and get time in the stand, then it was letting some deer walk or shooting some I thought were good size,” he said.

Phillips went through his original set of deer tags, then purchased more. That turned out to be a great move, and one he is happy to have made.

“I killed my limit and got more tags. And boy oh boy, am I happy I did that,” he said. “Because on Nov. 10, I got my best and biggest one yet. I got a wall mount! I got my prize! It’s an ole big boy 12-pointer!”
