We scouted this piece of public a week before blackpowder opener and found a couple good areas. We went out opening morning and dad was sitting on the edge of bedding waiting to catch deer coming back to bed from the big hardwoods or coming out. Sure enough, right after daylight, this stud walks out from the creek bed and follows the only clear trail straight to dad. He had no clue dad was there and he dropped him with his CVA Optima at 40yards. Funny thing, he said at around 9AM a dog chased out a even bigger buck from the same creekbed and that buck ran right under him and he could not get a shot off in time. Dad’s biggest public land to date.
