Taylor Williamson’s 8-point buck

8-point buck

Florence County buck was in full velvet

Sixteen-year-old Taylor Williamson of Florence, SC killed an 8-point buck in full velvet during an evening hunt on Aug. 10, 2024 in her home county. She shot the deer with a Mossberg Patriot .308 from 100 yards away. The buck ran 40 yards before it dropped dead. Williamson was hunting from an elevated blind when she shot the 148-pound buck.

She recounts her story of the hunt here:

“Due to storms around during the morning, I was unable to go to the stand. I watched the deer on camera all during the storm. So I decided to sit the same stand that I was going to that morning for the afternoon hunt. Again, storms were all around, but held off. And right at dark, the buck came out to the feeder.

He presented me with a good, clear shot, and I knew I hit him hard. I also knew which way he ran, but I wasn’t sure if he made it out of the field.

My mom and dad came down to help me trail the deer. We had a great blood trail, and we walked straight up to him. He ran 40 yards, and did not make it out of the field.

I have been wanting a velvet buck for a couple of years, and I am super excited that my dream came true!”
