I had this buck on camera last year and he was quite the buck main frame 9 pt heavy mass and even I unicorn point coming off his base. I was tagged out on bucks due to a very good season. I tried to get my girlfriend on him up until season went out but it didn’t work out. I kept check on the camera to see if he made it which he did. Fast forward to early late August early September I set up my spot and waited to see if he would come back sure enough I had pictures of him in full velvet a little change in head gear but I know it was him due to the brows and a weird little cluster on the end of his main beam. He stuck around until about mid Sept. Once he shed his velvet he disappeared. He then finally popped back up on November 11th then on the 12th both night time but on the 12th he came in 4 different times that night starting at 645 pm up until 430a.m on Wednesday morning. It was pretty chilly going into work Wednesday morning and we had gotten off a little early so I made the decision to go sit in the stand it was an event full evening seen 3 different bucks come in and make scrapes and a few doe come in to eat some corn then the chasing began the 2 year old bucks were running the doe all around the thicket. They the doe crossed the river which took the young bucks with them. I then heard some more scraping in the woods infront of me not knowing what it was I was patiently waiting for him to show his self expecting a 2 or 3 year old buck I would end up letting walk then there he was taking his time working his way to the corn pile I only had about 10 minutes of legal shooting time left but I was able to make out it was definitely him the crab claws gave it away I waited until he was broad side and then i cocked the hammer on my cva wolf center behind the shoulder and let a hornady rip. After the shot I heard him plowing through the woods and heard a huge crash. Then the excitement kicked in I was pumped to finally get a shot at this heavy horned joker. So I climed down walked to the corn pile where he was standing and only found a little blood at the impact spot which didn’t look like the best blood but also it didn’t smell so I knew it won’t gut. So I left gave him some time just incase and called a buddy to come help track. So we made it back and went to the blood I found and nothing else in the general area so I said I know he went this way and I did hear a crash. So about 10 yards into the small sapling thicket there was some really good blood. So we started to kick it into high gear every step it was just more and more blood. Then shined the light infront of us and there he was laying with his head off the ground due to the massive head gear he was sporting. Some high five and emotion was had then the work began I haven’t scored him yet but I would think he would still make it into the 130s due to all the mass measurements.I just think out smarting a mature deer is a feat of its own. I will be taking him to the dixie deer classic to be officially scored.
