8-point buck had a 19.5-inch spread
Mason Tyler, 17-years-old from Neeses, SC, killed an 8-point buck in full velvet in Orangeburg County on the evening of Aug. 22, 2024.
He knew the buck was in the area thanks to his trail cameras. He shot it with a .270 Winchester from 70 yards away while perched in an elevated stand. The buck fell after running about 15 yards.
The deer sported a 19.5-inch spread.
“I got in the deer stand at 6:45 p.m, and I saw a couple of does run off around 8 p.m. I heard something running behind me, and the buck came out in the cotton field about 70 yards away,” said Tyler. “I watched him for about 5 minutes before I shot him.”
