Two brothers, two velvet deer
Houston Jones, 12-years-old, and Rhett Jones, 13, are the most competitive brothers you’ll ever meet. The two young deer hunters from South Carolina went head to head this youth day, Aug. 10, 2024.
“Both had the ultimate goal of beating each other and walking away with their first velvet buck. Neither expected that both would walk away with not only their first velvet, but also their biggest bucks to date,” said their mom, April Jones. “By the end of the night, they didn’t even care who had the biggest buck. They made a brother memory that will last a lifetime and that my friend, is what youth day is all about!”
Rhett killed his buck, a 7-pointer, at 7:30 p.m. with a Remington .300 Win. Mag and a 100-yard shot. Houston followed that up with an 8-point buck at 7:55, connecting on a 180-yard shot from his Savage .308. Both of the hunts took place in Florence County, and from elevated stands.
