Hoke County buck green-scored 157 inches
I killed this buck, which green-scored 157 inches, from a two-man leaner in the woods of Hoke County, NC. I had several pictures of the deer on my trail cameras and had been watching him for the last 3 years. I could have taken him early in the season with my muzzleloader, but didn’t take the shot because it wasn’t the best shot, and I was trying to make sure it was him.
Worried that I wouldn’t get another opportunity on him, knowing he was the buck of a lifetime haunted me and made me second guess not taking the shot when I had it. But that all changed on the evening of Nov. 13, 2023 when he stepped out slightly quartering away from me at roughly 75 yards.
I knew it was him. I put the cross hairs on him and made a good shot with my Seekins Havac Pro Hunter 6.5 Creedmoor. I immediately knew I made a good shot. As I shook with excitement in the stand, I called my dad, my brother and my cousin to come help me search and retrieve him. I found the first spot of blood and waited patiently for them to arrive in excitement.
The deer ran about 50 yards in the brush and as soon as I saw him lying there, I knew I had shot and killed a buck of a lifetime, especially for my area. And then I realized he was even bigger than I imagined. I shouted in victory and celebrated there with them in excitement.
