After hunting almost every morning/ evening that I could make it and passing up many does and smaller bucks I finally got the chance to kill my biggest buck to date. Normally my boyfriend (Hunter) or his grandma (MiMi) would take me and drop me off to walk into the stand due to their being a men’s horse between the gates of the corn pile. After calling Hunter after work and telling him I was going and him replying with “you gotta take yourself, me or MiMi can’t get there in time” I knew that I had to go. We had only 4 pictures of this buck, and it was the night before at around 11:30 pm. I get the four wheeler, the rifle, and say my prayer as I head to the stand. I got in at around 4:45, because as they say the earlier the better. I sat and sat, as I was playing in my hair I looked up and saw horns. I stopped moving completely frozen and he turns to where all I see his is tail end. I immediately pick up my rifle and get settled, he then makes a right turn perfect to me. He keeps walking and before I know it I do my special “calling” he freezes and I shoot’s. He doesn’t drop so I call Hunter for him to bring Hayes (our yellow lab). By this time I am crying, shaking, and excited waiting for them to get to me. We walk down to where I shot and see blood, immediately Hunter goes “gut shot” my heart dropped. We walked a little further and Hunter whistled for Hayes and said he had more blood. As I am walking Hunter said “he has to cross this road and go into that thicket”. I stopped looked and their he was laying there, horns all in the air, across the road in the ditch, with Hayes all over her. I cry and FaceTime my Dad, Uncle, and a special friend to show them my biggest buck yet. This is truly a hunt I will never forget! I can not Thank the Good Lord above for sending me a hammer buck and letting me enjoy his creation!
