Zanders doubled up with an 8-point and a 6-point
Gary Zanders of Saint George, SC doubled up on Dorchester County bucks on Aug. 31, 2024 during a morning hunt from a ground blind. One was an 8-point buck he’d previously seen on trail cameras. The other was a 6 that he had no history with. He shot the bucks about 3 seconds apart.
Zanders shot the bucks from 172 yards away with a Remington .30-06. They both dropped immediately.
He tells his story here:
“The morning of August 31st 2024 I decided to sit in my ground stand about 5:30am but almost instantly regreted that decision because normally 5 to 7 does are always there but none to be seen by day break , continued to monitor and could hear a movement in the distance and 5 bucks appeared in the woodline all above 6 point and best estimate biggest of the bunch was The 11 point We Have been watching for My Wife but he reluctantly would not give Us a clean shot and stays covered , 3 bucks walked out into the sunlight and the 11 and one other stayed back as if they were expecting something to happen, I watched for 30 minutes as the 6 point and the 2 8 points grazed slowly across out to the open clearing , hands at this point are fully soaked and hearts been going a mile a minute for over 30 minutes now as I tried to decide which Buck I wanted to havest . Then I went Threw the motions of the possibility harvesting two of The bucks! didn’t truly think it was going to work out the way I planned but I still ran thru the scenario 50 times Praying I could pull it off , After cleaning the river of sweat running off my eyes and hands steadied myself for the first shot and pulled the Trigger and 100 percent thought I completely missed and the bucks Scattered fast,One decided to stop and look and I happened to be ready for him to stop shot the second time and watched him drop. Releived that I at least dropped one of them I sat for another 20 minutes and Then Slowly walked out to Discover Both Bucks Dropped Where I shot them 8 point 176 pounds and a just as big 6 point that wieghted 181 , the Ecitement was truly Overwhelming and Could not believe this once in a lifetime Event for me Anyhow lol It was an Awesome experience and Hope everyone Who Takes the Time an effort into Hunting these Deer Have the Opportunity to experience this kind of Ecitement and Satisfaction that I Experienced on that Day , My kids Will be taught to hunt and Hopefully Can Fullfil that same experience!”
