The deer was quartering hard. So after the shot it ran. We got out of the blind to look for blood and we found the arrow with a little bit of blood and sign of some guts…. Probably from quartering so hard. We backed out for a couple hours, formed a search party and went back to look

Evening

My husband Jacob Nielsen, took our son Fisher hunting last minute yesterday afternoon because the wind was just right for one of our ground blinds. We had a decent 8 pointer on camera and Fisher’s birthday is Sunday Nov 3rd, and all he wanted for his birthday was to go hunting to try and kill him a big buck. When they walked in around 4pm there were a couple of does and some turkeys already in the corn pile. They of course, ran off when they got into the blind. They got in the blind and got settled and the deer started coming back in around 5pm. They saw a total of 13 deer ranging from some does to some small bucks. With just a little bit of time left to hunt, and no deer in the field at the time, they decided to pack up and get out. They happened to look up before getting out of the blind and seen a buck walking towards them. The deer followed the same trail of a doe that came in prior, right to the corn pile. Fisher got set up and got the buck in his sights. He asked his dad how far the deer was. His dad had the deer ranged at 20 yards but the deer was quartering towards them. Jacob told Fisher to use the top pin, and Fisher took the shot. Everything happened so quick within like a minute of the deer walking in. The deer ran off. The boys called me and told me Fisher shot a good buck but they really weren’t sure what buck it was because we never had a pic of him. They got out of the blind to look for blood. They found the arrow with blood and what appeared to be some guts. They decided to back out, and give the deer some time. We formed a search party and went back 2 hours later to look for the deer. Myself, Jacob, Fisher, and our friends Michael, and Cj came to help us track the deer. The tracking process started off kind of scarce with pen drops of blood for the first little bit. Once the deer entered the wood line, the blood began to pick up more. The deer ran about 150 yards from where he was shot and was piled up dead. Fisher smoked him, but because he was quartering so hard, the arrow exited thru the guts which is what took him a little bit to bleed. When I tell you we didn’t truly know how big the deer was until we walked up on him, we were all shocked but so so excited for Fisher. He was on cloud 9 and so were we. That deer came in chasing, nose to the ground, neck swollen, and tarsal glands stinking. Needless to say it will be his last. Congrats Fisher on a STUD of a buck!
