Second hunt of the year, and what a memory it turned out to be! We hadn’t been in the stand more than ten minutes when four does came out. Before they could make it to the food plot, two more followed — then two more right behind them. He was getting ready to line up on the biggest doe when they all scattered.
A few minutes later, a four-point stepped out… and then a six-point followed. We sat and watched the two bucks fight for about thirty seconds before they started eating. He slowly got the gun up, and we waited about five minutes for the buck to turn broadside. When it did, he made a perfect double-lung shot with my 7mm-08. The deer ran only about 15 yards before going down.
The excitement, the patience, and that proud smile say it all. A moment we’ll both remember forever.
