Eric Latham’s big 8-point buck

On Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, i decided to go hunting. With the perfect wind in my face, I settled into my deer blind. I had been seeing a bachelor group of bucks every day all summer, so I figured they would show up. Well sure enough, around 7 p.m., here they came right in time.

The group settled in eating corn. With all the eyes looking around and hearing the noises of farm equipment in the background, the whole group was real nervous. The bucks were moving around, coming and going. The big 8 finally settled down and turned sideways and gave me a good broadside shot, so I let the arrow fly. Unfortunately the shot was a little further back than expected. So I let him lay for 2 hours and started tracking with good blood right off the bat. But with rain in the forecast, I was in a push for time. Me and my buddy tracked the deer until the rain started and washed the blood away, and decided to back out till daylight.

The next morning me and a buddy picked up where we left off and started to grid search the whole area. Well, we had almost completely lost hope and walked to a last-ditch-effort spot and my buddy yelled “hey I found your deer!” Then the real excitement and fun began.

Very honored to get the chance to harvest a mature buck especially in North Carolina.
