Lowcountry buck dropped in its tracks
What an evening in the deer woods with 15-year-old Delia DuBose of Bluffton, SC! This lowcountry buck, and a smaller 8-point, slipped out together right around 4:30 pm on Nov. 11, 2023. For what seemed like an eternity, if the brush was not in the way of a good shot, the smaller buck was.
At several points when the big eight was perfectly broadside, the smaller eight was directly on the other side of it preventing an ethical shot. My heart was pounding out of my chest and I was not even the one shooting. Delia, on the other hand, was calm and steady and waited for the right opportunity.
When the big eight stepped forward, giving a clear shot, she squeezed the trigger and the buck went down like it had a rug snatched out from under it. No tracking necessary on this one. So proud of what a great outdoor sportswomen Delia has become.
