First hunt produces first turkey for 11-year-old
I took my son, Gavin Blackwell (11), on his first ever turkey hunt the morning of April 13, 2024. Right at sunrise we had a tom sneak in from behind us as we were setup toward two or three gobbles coming from the opposite direction. He came directly toward the front of our ground blind from 60 yards and gave Gavin just enough time to swing his 20 gauge to the other window right as he appeared into the window opening at 6 yards. His first turkey weighed 19 pounds, had a 9-inch beard and 1-inch spurs. After this experience he has no idea what turkey hunting is really like!
