8-point buck was in full velvet
Danielle Swartz of Wagener, SC killed an 8-point buck in full velvet on Aug. 17, 2024 while hunting in Aiken County. She shot the buck at 7:40 p.m. with a Remington .243 from 90 yards away while perched in an elevated stand.
The deer ran off once it was hit, but dropped after running 65 yards. She was familiar with the buck through trail camera photos, and this was one of her target bucks for this season.
“I have been talking about wanting to get a shot at this deer, and there he was,” said Swartz. “He came out and looked straight towards me. I honestly thought he was going to take off. I slowly grabbed the gun and took the shot.”
