Cody Ellixson kills 8-point brute

8-point

8-point buck weighed 240 pounds

Cody Ellixson of Roxboro, NC killed a beast of an 8-point buck in Person County on Sept. 7, 2024. He shot the deer from 20 yards away with a TenPoint Titan M1 crossbow at about 7:45 p.m. after sitting in his elevated stand for around 4 hours.

The deer has been green scored at 138 4/8 inches.

“It was my 1st time ever hunting on the first day of archery season,” said Ellixson. “After dumping two bags of corn, I got in the stand around 3:30 p.m. I sat through the heat of the day and around 7 p.m. the deer started pouring in.”

At first, all he saw was some does and small bucks. But he had a feeling some bigger deer would step out soon.

“A bunch of does and cow horns came out to see if the coast was clear,” he said. “And it wasn’t long before I started to see some decent bucks coming in. And then all of a sudden, a real nice one stepped out and made his way to the corn.”

But it wasn’t the one he was really hoping to see, so he held off on taking a shot.

“I opted out of harvesting him because I had seen there were others on my cam,” he said. “And around 7:45 p.m., this guy stepped out into the field and headed straight for my corn pile.”

Ellixson was patient.

“I waited for the perfect shot and squeezed the trigger,” he said. “I knew I hit him good, but I gave him some time. Then, with the help of my daughter, wife and a few good friends we were able to find this healthy 240-pound brute that green scored 138 4/8 inches.
