Evening

I started my my Friday at work as usual a lot of people at work hunt and with the day being Friday the 13th and a a front coming in it didn’t take long for a deer conversation to pop off. As we set and talked I showed pictures of another buck that had been showing up and said this afternoon would probably be a good one with this front coming in. A few moments later my boss man came up to me and said if you wanna go hunt this afternoon go head and leave after lunch try to go get that deer.So I said yesir I will definitely take the time off if your okay with it so i left work not long after lunch and headed off to get everything ready to go.I got to my tree about 3:30 and was clipped in and settled by 3:45 as I set there over looking the shooting lane I noticed movement and out pops a fawn and not long after that it’s mama and another younger doe they hang around for about 45 minutes eating white oak acorns and then move on about there way. I set there for awhile not seeing anything else a few hours go by and I start wondering will he show up. why haven’t I seen him or the other smaller bucks that’s been coming through. The NE wind we had that Friday was perfect where was he at 9 mins after 7 o’clock I looked at my phone and sent my cousin a message asking if he had seen anything and when I turned my head back to the right there he stood or so I thought I knew instantly the deer was close to if not the biggest deer I have ever harvested. So I eased over to get my hand on my Hoyt rx8 and took my time buck fever had already set in pretty hard and I felt like my whole tree was starting to shake as the buck walked in to about 15 yards I grew even more nervous thinking about all the times in the past that had went wrong and saying lord please let this work out.As I got turned around and was ready to draw my bow the buck stopped and looked straight up at me he knew instantly that something wasn’t right but he couldn’t smell me because the wind was in my face.He turned around and was wanting to leave but the white oaks raining and the wind blowing and the fact that he couldn’t smell me had him unsure of what he wanted to do he seemed confused but paused long enough for me to come to full draw set the pin on my fast Eddie xl and squeeze off my Scott release. I watched my arrow fly perfectly into the crease of his right shoulder as he stood there perfectly quartered away and knew instantly he was smoked. The bucks jumped up kicked his back legs out and took off staggering and stumbling threw the tall grass and green briar tell he fell about 50 to60 yards away to his final resting place .I couldn’t believe it I had done it I made the phone calls got help on the way and eased out to the truck to pack everything up for the eve so I could get to work and get him out in the cooler.I couldn’t wait on anyone I got everything put away and grabbed my tracking light and went in I couldn’t wait to get my hands on this buck my first ever bow buck replaying in my mind the hunt and every hunt before all the ones I let them walk and have another year all the ones that did t work out in my favor all the time spent and work out in for this moment. As I walk closer to where I hit the deer I can see plain as day the blood trail I causally walk up to the arrow and follow the blood with ease for the G5 mega meat played no games on its pass through and with a short walk I seen antlers sticking up in the grass there it is I said to my self as I ran over and grabbed his rack up to realize it wasn’t the deer I had been after and never had a single pic of this deer but I sure was happy with him not long after that helped showed up and we got him took care of and hosted up on the skinning pole for bragging rights it was an awsome Friday the 13th early season bow hunt but the chase continues for the deer I been looking for Mabe he will show up again.
