“BC” Beason Creek Buck

The story of “BC” (Beason Creek) began with a thanksgiving conversation on Thursday evening (11/27/25) with family around the dinner table about a monster deer that almost hit my wife’s uncle’s truck. I asked if I could come hunt sometime soon, they gave me the green light to come hunt the upcoming Saturday morning (11/29/25). My intentions were to bring my little girl a long (8yr. old), but those plans changed when I found out it would be 22 degrees that morning. On Friday (11/28/25), I was hunting on my family’s land in SC with my Dad and 6yr old son. We were unsuccessful that evening and so I rushed back home, which was an hour away. I grabbed my one-man chair blind and shooting stick from the house. I drove to meet my wife’s uncle to find a spot and setup for the following morning.

When I arrived, I loaded my blind and shooting stick into the back of the little Ranger atv, grabbed a headlight and we headed to the woods. He was showing and telling me about where he sees deer and where he thinks the big deer beds. We drove around an area in the field on a ridge and looked around with my headlight. After some discussion and understanding the terrain, I opted to set up down by the creek and watch the ridge we were currently sitting on in the ranger. I saw a lot of buck rubs on some larger than normal trees on the ridge while looking around with my headlight. We drove the ranger down to the end of the field and into the bottom beside the creek. I picked out a tree to set up my chair blind and shooting stick against. The creek has lots of 4-5ft bamboo saplings growing up so I nestled the blind against a tree that had several of those to give me cover. I scraped the ground with my boots to expose the dirt so I wouldn’t make noise sitting there the next morning.

The next morning, I parked my truck at the house and had a nice walk back down the driveway and along the fence in the pasture that led to the creek bottom. As I was walking along the fence in the pasture, I heard a deer blow, and I kept walking as if I didn’t hear it. I approached the edge of the woods and temporarily lost my bearings and made a little noise figuring out which way to go and had to turn my green light on. I got my bearing and made it to my chair blind after crunching the frozen leaves. I also made a little noise getting in the chair blind because it was frozen as well. I was set up and ready about 30 minutes before daybreak.

I waited till about 15 minutes before daybreak and blew my extinguisher deer grunt with 2 short grunts and set it down. About five minutes after daybreak, I hit my grunt again and thought the deer were going to be moving soon. I really had zero expectations but was excited for what could unfold next. I see a small buck running up the ridge to my left just as I thought the deer might move. I looked at him through the scope and noticed it was a small 6 point and just watched him for a while. I saw more deer traveling the same pattern that appeared to be a few nice does. I knew that none of those deer were remotely close to the elusive big buck I was told about nor capable of making the rubs I saw on several trees in the dark with my light the night before. About ten minutes had passed as I was watching those deer and I hit my extinguisher grunt two more light grunts and set it down. It wasn’t long after that I looked to my left in the direction all the deer were coming from and saw the biggest deer rack running up that ridge. I started to get buck fever all over my body. I was in a deer coma trying to figure out how I was going to make that shot. I knew at that moment this was the Big Buck they were talking about. He came into that area showing his dominance about 80 yards away pushing that small 6 point out of there and trying to get to one of the does.

I was playing cat and mouse trying to get him in my scope and hold the rifle on that shooting stick. I didn’t have much room to move in that small chair blind, but I had one little window to make a shot happen. I waited for what seemed like forever, but it was only seconds. The massive buck stepped into that shooting lane; I squeezed the trigger on my Remington 742 Woodmaster Carbine .30-06 and listened to it ring out, knocking the biggest buck of my life to the ground in his tracks. I was in awe, I couldn’t believe what had just happened and I was eager to see this deer up close. The other deer slowly dispersed, and I watched them clear the area.

My wife’s uncle and aunt heard the shot, and I texted them with excitement that I have shot a HUGE buck and possibly the one they were talking about. I gave the deer about 30 minutes and got out of my blind to go meet the biggest buck I have ever laid hands on. I was thankful, grateful and very excited to see what God had blessed me with that morning. I made my way to the buck and was in shock at what I was looking at. I had just killed the biggest buck of my life to date. My wife’s uncle and aunt came to me with the Ranger shortly after and it took all three of us to load “BC” (Beason Creek), the deer they were talking about into the back of the Ranger.
