A buck for Grandaddy and Pa Bill

Buck was shot with Pa Bill’s rifle, from a stand made by Grandaddy

After losing my Grandaddy and my Pa Bill both about a year ago, I told myself I was going to dedicate this hunting season to both of them.

On the evening of Nov. 29, I sat in an old box stand my Dad and Grandaddy built for me and would always take me after school when I was a little boy. When this old warrior came out chasing a doe, I didn’t have to think twice about it. I put one right through the heart using my Pa Bill’s old hunting rifle.

The deer didn’t run far at all, but it made it even cooler watching my puppy nail the blood track and take us right to him. The buck had a third main beam that fell off somewhere in the crash. I hate I couldn’t find it.

I love an old buck with some character, but this one just means a little bit more than the rest of them.
