Short hunt produces buck in velvet

Hunter Grismer, 5-years-old, asked his dad to take him deer hunting on Aug. 10, 2024, South Carolina’s Youth Day for Game Zones 3&4. And just a few minutes after getting in the stand, this young hunter bagged his first buck.

“He wanted to go hunting, so we went. We were set up for less than 10 minutes when six bucks walked out. Hunter shot the biggest one,” said his dad.

Grismer killed the buck at 7 a.m., with a slug from his shotgun at 30 yards while sitting on the ground. They tracked the 10-point buck, which was in velvet and weighed 152 pounds, for 50 yards.
