Family members had first trail cam pics for about a week prior, all at night. No one had seen the deer prior in the flesh. With her busy cheer and volleyball schedule, hunting time was very limited, with Wednesday evenings being basically the only chance to hunt. Hayden (14) and her Dad hit the ground blind at about 4:15. Two does came with in about 15 minutes to the corn and apple pile. Hayden decided she would take a doe, so that she could get her first kill under her belt. She took aim on a doe and waited for it to present a broadside shot. Well they keep standing straight on or stacking up one behind the other and never presented a clean shot. Then we hear a grunt, and the buck came trotting in running the does off. Because of the inexperience she, didn’t get a shot at the buck at first. The does circle around and come back to the bait pile, while the buck disappeared into the thicket. But vocal grunting could be heard as the buck turns and comes back to the bait pile at 70 yards away. This time Hayden was settled in and let the Ruger American Centerfire chambered in 350 Legend find its mark on this main frame 9 pointer with a split browtine and several kickers at its bases. After the shot was fired she was puzzled by the uncontrolled shaking known as buck fever! The deer ran about 40 yards back into the timber and crashed to ground. This will surely be a memory that will last a lifetime for her and her dad.
