Katie Ives catches her first redfish

First redfish set the bar high for Willow Spring angler

This is the very first redfish I have ever caught! I caught the fish on Nov. 15, 2020. I’m from Willow Spring, N.C. and we were fishing in Apalachicola Bay.

At first, I thought I had a small fish or crab playing with my live shrimp bait. My rod bent a bit then let loose. I tugged gently to see if I was hooked up but the line was not tight. I set my pole back in the rod holder and all of a sudden the reel started screaming….and so did I!

After a great fight and almost being pulled overboard, I landed it in the boat, wrapped my arms around it, said cheese into the camera, gave it a big big hug and my thanks, then I released it. That first redfish set the bar pretty high!
