My name is Chase Turknett and I currently reside in Charleston, SC. I wanted to share my experience sight fishing a school of redfish on Kiawah Island, SC on January 24th, 2025. I drove to one of my favorite saltwater ponds on the island. The pond is fed by a tidal drain under the road. I parked my car and spotted a school of roughly 50 grown and healthy redfish & black drum cruising a shallow flat. I immediately ran to my car grabbed my spinning rod, net and tackle box and went to the bank. I rigged up a 3/16 trout eye jighead with a Zman EZ shrimp and slowly worked it in-front of the school. The fish were lethargic but I managed to catch and land 4 redfish all within the 22” – 27” range. All fish were released successfully. Meanwhile, we experienced roughly 5 inches of snow two nights previously so it was very unique to catch redfish with snow still on the ground. I hope you all find interest in my story and photos! Let me know if there are ant questions I can answer.
