Shellcracker bite starts early in the year
Danikka Wolfe, carolinafishinqueen on TikTok, caught this shellcracker while fishing around vegetation in 3 feet of water at Santee Cooper’s Upper Lake. She was using a simple bobber rig and a red worm on Feb. 7, 2025.
“The shellcrackers are moving up, and I’m so excited to start filling the cooler up!” she said.
While many bream anglers wait until March to begin fishing, the shellcrackers get started a little earlier, and those anglers in the know get a jumpstart of everyone else by going after these fish early in the year.
