St. Matthews’ Barry Hunter visited the 26th Annual Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic yesterday (Saturday, March 27), and didn’t plan to return for the final day of the event. However, he ended up driving an hour to pick up a CVA Electra muzzleloader he won in a free drawing.

SouthCarolinaSportsman.com gave the rifle away from among those who registered for the Web site during the show.

“I’ve never won anything,” Hunter said when he received the call. “I guess putting the (Sportsman) sticker on my truck was lucky. I had just put it on when y’all called.”

He said he the rifle will come in handy, since he had sold his when moving into an area that didn’t offer a muzzleloader season.

The CVA Electra features cap-free shooting, with a patent-pending ARC Electronic Ignition system firing the weapon.

SouthCarolinaSportsman.com also was on hand to create a photo record of the event, building a gallery showing more than 110 of the more than 220 racks scored by South Carolina Department of Natural Resources officials.
