Parsons resigns spot on N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission

Doug Parsons of Clinton served on the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission from 2002 to 2012.

Appointment as district court judge is reason for resignation

W. Doug Parsons of Clinton, a member of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission since 2002, resigned on May 3 after his appointment as a district court judge.

Parsons, a 62-year-old attorney, had to resign to avoid potential conflicts of interest because, as a judge, he could preside over wildlife-enforcement cases. He is the second commissioner to resign in the past three months, leaving the Commission with 17 members, two below its normal size.

Parsons was appointed by former Gov. Mike Easley to serve a 6-year term as commissioner from District 4. He was re-appointed by Gov. Beverly Perdue in 2008.

Mallory Martin, assistant director of the agency, did not know when Parsons or Doc Thurston, who resigned this past March, would be replaced.

“There are two different appointing authorities, and it’s their prerogative,” he said. “It’s up to those individuals.”
