Game wardens do much more than write tickets

Game wardens from state agencies often get a bad rap. Many outdoorsmen want to avoid them at all cost. But the majority of anglers and hunters are happy to see them out protecting the resources we love. And for those who think the only thing game wardens do is write tickets, they’re sorely mistaken.

Master Officer David Ritzheimer of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission (NCWRC) is just one example of that. This past Saturday, Ritzheimer arrived on the scene of a kayaker in distress.

The kayaker had turned his watercraft over and had been underwater for several minutes. Ritzheimer and Stanly County Sheriff’s Dept. Deputy Darnell Almond took turns performing CPR for several minutes. Luckily, they were able to revive the kayaker, who was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.

What kind of encounters have you had with your local game wardens?
