Greenville teen makes JO national skeet team

John Ferebee III of Greenville made the National Junior Olympic Shooting Team’s skeet squad.

Ferebee is top 15-17 shooter, takes forth place overall

John Ferebee III of Greenville won a spot last month on the six-man U.S. Junior Olympic International Skeet Squad.

Ferebee, 15, won the gold medal in his 15-17 age group and was fourth overall at the 2013 National Junior Olympic Shooting Championships in Colorado Springs. He is the youngest member of the team.

A student at the Oakwood School in Greenville, Ferebee won the HOA championship at the SCTP N.C. State Sporting Clays Championship at Rose Hill Plantation in Nashville the previous weekend.

The six men’s finalists at the JO nationals were separated by four targets entering the 25-target final. Phillip Jungman of Caldwell, Texas., won the overall championship for the second-straight year. Granger DeWitt of Bryan, Tex., was second, followed by William Dunnebacke of Hampshire, Tenn., Ferebee, Jakob Keldsen of Walkerton, Ind., and Hayden Stewart of Columbia, Tenn.

Dania Vizzi of Odessa, Fla., won the women’s title.
