The 2011 Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic draws tens of thousands of hunters and anglers to the Columbia state fairgrounds to celebrate our outdoor heritage. The Golden State Foods Foundation uses this time to put on a raffle that raises funds for the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources’ Take One Make One program, and during the awards ceremony a special presentation in honor of a veteran who lost his life in Iraq was made.At 3 p.m. on Sunday (March 27), Bruce Compton presented father Hamp Caughman the No. 1 Freedom duck call from Flatwoods Game Calls of Bennettsville in honor of his son Thomas Caughman’s sacrifice.

Thomas Caughman was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and his relatives working at Golden States Foods volunteer to promote the Take One Make One program in his name.

The Freedom custom duck call, in red white and blue, will only be made in a limited run of 50 calls. Hamp Caughman accepted the first of the calls with gratitude, and the custom call presentation completed the raffle drawings that day.
